Water Treatment

Water Quality Testing

At Junior’s Plumbing we now offer water quality testing in house, and work with leading professionals in the industry and laboratories to further test and diagnose any particles, minerals and/or bacterial contaminants in your water system.

Testing: pH, Iron, Hardness

We can come out to take a sample and process it within 24 business hours to determine the levels of pH, iron, and/or hardness in your homes water system.  For these items we can provide and install an acid neutralizer, iron, and/or softener system based on your individual test results.  Whether on well or municipal water, your water can be under treated, or even over treated for these, and water conditioning systems are a must to keep anyone consuming or coming into contact with the water healthy.  Often with municipal water we see overly treated pH/acidity levels, which in turn creates hardness in your water.  Hard water can cause damage in your plumbing fixtures and appliances, damage or fade clothing if used to wash laundry, and create skin and health issues for anyone consuming or bathing in hard water.

Lab Testing

If you have a specific bacteria, mineral or element that you’re seeking to test your water for, we work with reputable laboratories in Virginia that we can send your water sample off to for further testing.  Testing can be done in groups, such as “metals testing”, or for individual elements.  Most all of the lab tests are performed within 2-4 business days, but some more uncommon elements require 7-10 business days.  We guarantee we can find whatever you need so give us a call to some by and test your water quality now!

Bacteria Testing

Coliform bacteria is the most common type of bacteria found in well water.  A simple water sample can be taken and tested by a certified laboratory for bacteria in your water.  The bacteria testing results take 2-4 business days from the date the sample was collected and you will receive a certified letter from the laboratory and signed by the lab Doctor who tested your sample.

What do I do if my well tests positive for bacteria?

We recommend, only for a short term solution, shocking your well to rid the well and water lines of bacteria that can be hiding in and breeding more bacteria that can be harmful to the health of anyone who consumes the water.  Within a couple of weeks of shocking your well we then recommend following this with the installation of a UV purification system.

Filtration Systems

We always recommend that a filtration system be installed on your homes water lines as even the most basic of filters can be helpful in removing contaminants and particles that can affect your health.   There is a very wide range of options for filters today ranging from basic cartridge systems that are disposed of and replaced routinely, or low-to-no maintenance options that are changed out less frequently or even simply flushed and reusable.

UV Systems

The UV light system is installed on your main water line, just after the filter, and before any conditioning systems.  The water come right in a the main supply, through the filter, and in the UV where the water passes directly through the UV light which removes 99.99% of bacteria present in the water.  It then leaves the outlet and is bacteria free.  This is the most permanent and effective way to rid your water of bacteria if coliform is or was present in your water lines.

Well Shocking

Recently some lenders have required homes with private well systems be “shocked” or “chlorinated”, and then tested for bacteria.  We have seen an influx of these being requested due to new loan regulations and have created a well shocking package for customers to choose from:

Well Shocking with bacterial testing

  • This package includes our professional plumbing technician’s initial visit to shock the well and ensure chemicals are strategically placed in all of the plumbing lines and fixtures where bacteria may be present.
  • Returning in 24-48 hours to flush all of the plumbing lines and fixtures until chemicals are no longer present.
Taking water sample post shocking and testing for bacteria at local laboratory.
  • Within 2-4 days providing certification of negative bacterial test results and a pdf copy of the certified results directly from the laboratory Doctor who performed the bacterial test.

Well Shocking without bacterial testing

  • This package includes our professional plumbing technician’s initial visit to shock the well and ensure chemicals are strategically placed in all of the plumbing lines and fixtures where bacteria may be present.
  • Returning in 24-48 hours to flush all of the plumbing lines and fixtures until chemicals are no longer present.
  • Complimentary in-house water quality testing with an estimate for UV purification system to treat the bacteria permanently and a diagnostic report and estimate for any necessary water conditioning.
